GPS AND MAPPING
AMT has been involved in GPS and mapping since 1990. Our experience and
expertise includes development of precision mobile mapping systems,
airborne GPS, and geographical information systems. Example projects and
capabilities include:
- Precision mobile mapping systems (see below)
- Customized geographical information systems (GIS)
- GPS and inertial navigation system integration
- Location aware video logging
- Navigation and path planning algorithms
- Embedded GPS electronics and software
- Airborne GPS
- WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System)
- Vehicle tracking (AVL - automatic vehicle location)
- Data mining and pattern recognition
- Geographical data compression
Clients include:
- L-3 Communications
- NASA
- General Railway Signal
- U.S. Department of Defense
- TRANSMAP
- U.S. Department of Transportation
- Goodrich Aerospace
PROJECT SPOTLIGHT: TRANSMAP ON-SIGHT(TM) Precision Mapping Vehicles

| Client: |
TRANSMAP, Inc. |
| Challenge: |
Government agencies have significant problems maintaining and managing
roadway infrastructure, due to lack of intelligent data about roadways
and roadway infrastructure. With limited budgets and personnel
constraints, governments look to Asset Management Systems and the data
behind them to identify ways to leverage resources and respond to
greater system demands while maintaining adequate levels of service and
safety.
|
| Solution: |
TRANSMAP and AMT worked together to develop an efficient and systematic
van-based system for gathering roadway and infrastructure information.
The ON-SIGHT(TM) Mobile Mapping System combines global positioning
system (GPS), inertial navigation system, and roadway imaging to create
intelligent road networks and infrastructure databases of 27 different
infrastructure elements (including traffic signs, sidewalks, manholes,
curb inlets, utility poles, and street trees). The results are
consistent and accurate roadway databases that can drive any Asset
Management System or Geographical Information System (GIS).
